Hiking and Biking
Hiking - The natural choice
The climate in Cyprus makes walking a pleasure with the islands natural beauty and magnificent scenery providing unrivalled trails and tours. Whether your preference is for a stroll or an exhilarating hike, there are a variety of options.
The striking views of the Troodos mountains and the rugged beauty of the Akamas peninsula are the most popular areas for the walking enthusiast. The mountain trails, many of them clearly marked by the Cyprus Tourism Organization, introduce visitors to the flora and fauna of the island, and take them through pine forests, past springs and into villages with their pretty stone houses and historic churches.
For walkers who wish to stroll around the historic centers of the big towns, there are a wide variety of guided and self-guided tours to choose from.
Walking holidays in Cyprus are increasingly popular for those holidaymakers who wish to get away from the more conventional holiday pursuits of the sea and sand. Organized walking holidays which give visitors a taste of the great variety of scenery Cyprus has to offer, are available through the Travel Agencies, members of the Association for Cultural and Special Interest Tourism, listed in the insert at the back.
Cycling at its best
For those who want to combine healthy living with pleasure, a cycling holiday is the answer. Cyprus has much to offer the cyclist. The mountains provide ideal biking terrain, stunning views, quiet tarmac roads, even quieter paths and clean, fresh air. The unspoiled villages with their historic churches offer perfect stopping-off points. A cycling holiday on the mountains will challenge even the most hardened cyclist, but novices should not be daunted, shorter, gentler routes are easily found.
In the mountains you can cycle for most of the year, and in the summer the region provides a cool refuge from the heat of the coasts, just an hour drive away.
Throughout Cyprus, cyclists will find a great variety of attractive routes. All resorts are extremely well placed for cycling holidays. With miles of coastline they offer many opportunities for cyclists but some of them are also close to the mountains, forests and dams.
Recognizing the growing interest in cycling holidays, our members offer organized trips catering to the particular needs of the cyclist.
